Kemah TX to Palmetto FL.....

Saturday, Dec 22 was the start of our maiden voyage. The plan was to sail from Kemah TX to Palmetto FL which was supposed to take between 4 and 5 days. The first 3 1/2 days were great sailing conditions. then the winds switch… straight out of the east right where we were trying to go. Then the real adventure began… in the middle of the night, the winds started hitting 30 kn. We had to go out in the deck in the pitch black, 12 foot seas, 20 knot winds and bring down the Genoa and reef the mainsail. Things got real! A quote from Captain Tracy: we will put the beast in survival mode and ride it out. It turned out to be a very long 200 miles to palmetto. When we arrived at the channel of Tampa Bay, the sun was just rising on our 6th day of our sailing adventure. A gorgeous sunrise welcomed us to Palmetto, which will be home for several months as we have mods done on the boat before we head out to the Bahamas.
