Back in beautiful St John, USVI

We are back in the USVI, we didn't plan on returning here for another 3-6 years. Our plan had been to continue to ABC's for hurricane season, travel to Cartagena and then on through the Panama Canal in Feb 2021. We will figure out how our long term plans will change as the impacts of the pandemic become more clear.

In March, we spent several days in St Lucia, the Pitons are beautiful. The islands were already starting to be locked down, so we spent the days on the boat and in the water. Crystal clear water, lots of fish…

On March 30th we left Grenada to sail back up to St John, USVI, it took us 64 hours as a direct sail. We sailed direct because all ports were closed in the Windwards and Leeward islands. We saw only two ships when we were out there: one tanker and one cargo ship. The tanker was just floating at 1 knot…with a destination listed as “awaiting orders”.

The USVIs have implemented shelter at home with essential services remaining open. We are healthy and happy here in Maho Bay. There is a good community of cruisers here. We will be here for the next month at least. Most likely will leave in mid-may and head back to Wilmington NC again for hurricane season.
