Wilmington NC to Fajardo PR
After spending three months in Wilmington NC, doing boat projects and getting to do yoga every day at “ Yoga Salt”. We made many new friends in Wilmington waiting for the hurricane season to be over (Nov 1st). November 3 we left for Puerto Rico 1200 nautical miles, 10 days of Bluewater sailing. The first 6 days started out was much lighter winds then predicted. A low front hit us on the 7th day that was forecast to stay north of us and was not predicted to come as far south as we were, it over ran us with 30kt winds gusting to 45kts. The waves built up to 30+ feet just as night set in. Yes, this was terrifying! We had no choice but to put the waves to our Stern, change course and ride it out after two days. Without sleep, we ended up being blown into one of the last Bahama Islands: MayaGuana. The winds had changed to a South-East direction so we had to wait for a new weather window that would allow us to continue South-East. We ended up anchoring for 8 days in Abraham’s bay was 4 x 2 miles about 14 feet deep, beautiful crystal clear water. In the 8 days there we never saw another person or boat. Our passage from MayaGuana to the east coast of Puerto Rico took us 4 days.
