Colombia and Chile

Colombia and Chile

After spending the 2023 hurricane season in beautiful Bonaire, we sailed to Colombia with a plan to explore more of the country than we did in 2021. We wanted to see Cali, Guatapé and Medellín. The marina is just west of Barranquilla, Colombia. It is very remote but a part of a small tourist area and resort.

Travel in Colombia

We flew to Cali and rented a car. The main roads in the west central part of Colombia are very nice, easy and safe driving. Tolls are common. From Cali, we drove to:

Lake Calima: local tourist town with huge man made lake

Guatapé: famous for Piedra del Peñol, a giant granite rock southwest of town, has hundreds of steps to the top. We climbed to the top!

Salento: tourist town full of brightly colored buildings, cute vibe and surrounded by coffee plantations. We visited Finca El Oscara Salento for a coffee tour.

Medellín: second largest city in Colombia, infamous for trafficking but now a thriving tourist city. Great food, great art and city life.

Travel in Chile

We flew to Santiago Chile to spend a few weeks in t.he city and then bussed to a famous coastal town called Valparaiso. Valparaiso is a heritage site full of murals on the streets and buildings. we made two fast moving videos of our visit.
