At last! New Dinghy Davits

At last! New Dinghy Davits

last year, a wave overtook our dinghy during a passage in the Atlantic. The port davit was damaged and “Kirby” wasn’t safe in his hang out anymore. The aluminum davits were original to this version of the Fontaine Pajot Helia, and was one of the things we didn’t like that about the boat the most. Low and under designed, the dinghy couldn’t be lifted high enough.
Since we were chased back to the US due to Covid it was a opportunity to make the change.

Louie created a design based on the newer version of the Helia’s davits. These davits are stainless and positioned so the dinghy sits higher above the water.

This was not just a simple swap out. In addition to fabrication of the davits themselves, there was a considerable amount of work to the transom to support the new davits and to make structural and cosmetic changes needed.

Jeremy at Zimmerman Marine was integral to this structural and cosmetic work. This is a quick summary of the work done and the end result.

”Kirby” now has a safe spot to travel, high and dry.
